Pisces Zodiac Sign: Personality, Love, Work and Meaning
Pisces is the twelfth and last zodiac sign, a mutable water sign ruled by Neptune and traditionally by Jupiter, known for empathy, imagination and a fluid sense of boundaries.
What is my zodiac sign?
Pisces is the twelfth and final sign of the zodiac, the Sun sign for people born from about February 19 to March 20. It is the mutable water sign, with Neptune as its modern ruler and Jupiter as its traditional one, and its symbol is two fish swimming in opposite directions. Astrologers describe Pisces as compassionate, imaginative and sensitive, a sign that feels what others feel and sometimes loses track of where it ends.

What is a Pisces?
A Pisces has the Sun in the last sign of the zodiac, the final weeks of winter in the Northern Hemisphere before the March equinox starts the cycle again with Aries. Astrologers often describe Pisces as the sign that contains a little of all the others, the point where everything dissolves before a new beginning.
Water is the element of feeling, and mutable signs are adaptable and open to change. Mutable water is the most fluid combination in the zodiac, taking the shape of whatever holds it. Jupiter, the traditional ruler, adds faith, generosity and a wide view. Neptune, assigned to Pisces after its discovery, adds dreams, art, spirituality and the dissolving of boundaries. Venus is traditionally exalted in Pisces, a sign of how highly the tradition rates its capacity for love.

What are Pisces personality traits?
Empathy sits at the center of the sign. A Pisces often walks into a room and feels the mood before anyone has said a word, and strangers tend to tell them things they have never told anyone. That sensitivity can be draining, but it is also why Pisces makes such a gentle, nonjudgmental friend.
Imagination comes next. Music, film, painting, writing, daydreaming and any activity where the mind can float tend to attract the sign. Many Pisceans have a rich inner world and a sense of humor that is softer and stranger than people expect.
Pisces is also more resilient than it looks. Like water, it gives way, then finds another path around the obstacle. The sign adapts to change and loss in a way more rigid signs cannot.
What are Pisces blind spots?
Boundaries are the big one. A Pisces may take on other people's problems as if they were its own, agree to things it does not want and then quietly resent them. Saying no early, and kindly, saves a great deal of trouble later.
Escapism is the second. When reality gets harsh, the sign may retreat into sleep, screens, fantasy or anything else that softens the edges. A little of this is rest. A lot of it can mean problems go unaddressed until they grow.
Seeing people as they could be rather than as they are is the third. Pisces gives second and third chances generously, sometimes to people who have not earned them. Virgo, the opposite sign, holds the counterweight: clear judgment, practical limits and the courage to look at the facts.
What is Pisces like in love?
Pisces is one of the most romantic signs. It falls in love with the whole person, including who they might become, and it shows affection through attention, small gestures and a willingness to adapt. The sign wants a soulful connection more than a practical arrangement.
Classical rules match Pisces with the other water signs, Cancer and Scorpio, and with the earth signs Taurus and Capricorn, which give its feelings a steady shape. Virgo and Pisces covers the opposite-sign pairing in detail, and the guide to Libra and Pisces covers two gentle signs with very different instincts. The Pisces compatibility hub lists all twelve.
The thing to watch is self-sacrifice. A relationship where Pisces gives everything and asks for nothing is not as romantic as it looks.
Pisces at work
Creative and caring work suits Pisces best: music, film, photography, writing, illustration, therapy and counseling, nursing, chaplaincy, social work, charity work and anything with water, such as marine biology or swimming instruction. The sign wants its work to mean something.
Pisces is a gentle, supportive colleague who notices when someone is struggling. The challenge is structure. Deadlines, budgets and office politics can feel foreign, and a Pisces may agree to too many requests. A clear system, written priorities and a manager who checks in kindly bring out the sign's best.
Pisces as Sun, Moon or rising sign
A Pisces Sun gives a life direction shaped by compassion, art or spirituality. A Pisces Moon soaks up the emotional climate around it and often needs time alone, near water or with music, to settle. Pisces rising gives a soft, dreamy first impression, with eyes that people tend to remember.
The same sign can look very different across placements. An Aries Sun with Pisces rising may seem gentle at first and turn out to be decisive. To find your mix, use the moon sign calculator, the rising sign calculator or the big three calculator.
The two fish: myth and symbol
The best-known story behind Pisces comes from Roman poets. Venus and her son Cupid, fleeing the monster Typhon, jumped into a river and became fish, tying themselves together with a cord so they would not lose each other. The two fish in the sky are joined by a ribbon of faint stars that ends in a knot.
The glyph shows two curved lines facing away from each other, connected by a straight bar. Astrologers read it as two pulls inside one person: one toward the world, one away from it, held together by a bond. Because of precession, the Sun now stands in the constellation Pisces at the March equinox, which is where the popular idea of an Age of Pisces giving way to an Age of Aquarius comes from.
Born on the Pisces cusp?
Births near the Aquarius border or near the March equinox need an exact check. The equinox, which marks the start of Aries, falls at a slightly different time every year, so the last day of Pisces changes too.
Look up your birth year on the zodiac sign dates page or enter your details in the birth chart calculator. You are not a blend of two signs; your Sun is in one of them, and other planets can carry the flavor of the next.
