Taurus Compatibility: Best Matches and Harder Pairings
Taurus usually finds its easiest matches in Virgo and Capricorn, its earth trines, and in the water signs Cancer and Pisces, while Leo and Aquarius square it and Scorpio sits opposite.
Taurus and another sign
Taurus matches best with Virgo and Capricorn, which share its earth element, and with Cancer and Pisces, two water signs that earth is said to hold and be fed by. That is the classical rule of elements and angles, and it describes tendencies, not outcomes. How two people actually get along depends on far more of the birth chart than the Sun.
Who is Taurus compatible with?
Taurus is a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus. It values comfort, loyalty and things that last, and it tends to move slowly once and then not move at all. Its ideal partner is someone who finds that steadiness reassuring instead of dull.
By the old rules, the most comfortable matches are the signs that share or support that earth. Virgo and Capricorn are four signs away, a trine within the same element. Cancer and Pisces are two signs away, a sextile from the water element. Another Taurus counts as a same-element match too.
None of this means a Taurus should cross off Leo or Aquarius. The rule only describes where the natural ease lies. Many of the strongest couples are the ones who had to work out their differences early.
How are the Taurus matches grouped?
We group the twelve signs by their distance from Taurus around the zodiac, the short way. That distance is the classical angle between two signs, from the same sign at zero to the opposite sign at six steps. The table that follows shows each partner's element and the angle it forms, using the same code as our zodiac compatibility calculator.
Inside each group the signs simply appear in zodiac order. We do not score or rank the pairs, because classical astrology has no scale for that, and a percentage would only pretend to be precise.
All 12 Taurus matches by the classical angle
| Angle | Traditional reading | Signs |
|---|---|---|
| Trine | Natural ease | Virgo, Capricorn |
| Sextile | Friendly and easy | Cancer, Pisces |
| Opposition | Opposites that attract | Scorpio |
| Same sign | Easy understanding, shared blind spots | Taurus |
| Square | Friction and strong attraction | Leo, Aquarius |
| Semi-sextile | Different temperaments, a learning pair | Aries, Gemini |
| Quincunx | Needs conscious effort | Libra, Sagittarius |
Computed from the angle between the signs, the same rule as our compatibility chart. Linked signs have a full pair guide.
Which signs suit Taurus best by element?
Earth with earth is the most familiar fit. Taurus and Virgo tend to agree on how a home should run and how money should be handled. Taurus and Capricorn share a long view, and both would rather build something slowly than chase quick wins. Two Taurus partners can create a very comfortable life together, as long as one of them is willing to suggest a change now and then.
Water brings what earth lacks. Cancer shares the Taurus love of home and offers emotional warmth in return for stability. Pisces softens Taurus and adds imagination, while Taurus gives Pisces the solid ground it often wants. Both are sextiles, the friendly angle that rewards a little effort.
Where does Taurus find friction?
Leo and Aquarius square Taurus. All three are fixed signs, which means all three are stubborn in their own direction. With Leo, the question is usually generosity versus caution: Leo wants to spend on the moment, Taurus wants to keep something back. With Aquarius it is routine versus change, since Aquarius gets restless where Taurus feels most at home.
Libra and Sagittarius form quincunxes. Libra shares Venus as ruler, so the two enjoy the same pleasures, yet Libra's social pace can tire Taurus out. Sagittarius wants freedom and travel, and Taurus wants to know where everyone will be on Sunday. The neighbors, Aries and Gemini, move faster than Taurus likes. Our guide to Taurus and Gemini shows how that speed difference can turn into a useful partnership instead of a running complaint.
What helps these pairs is patience on both sides and fewer ultimatums. Taurus rarely changes because it was told to. It changes when it sees that the new way is actually better.
What about Taurus and Scorpio, the opposite sign?
Scorpio sits across the zodiac from Taurus. Two fixed signs from supportive elements, earth and water, make the classic attraction of opposites in its most loyal form. Taurus is about what you can touch and keep. Scorpio is about what lies under the surface. Each finds the other hard to read and hard to forget.
Two fixed signs rarely leave easily, which can be a strength. The risk is a standoff where neither will be the first to give ground. Pairs that last tend to agree on a few rules for fighting fairly and then trust each other with the rest.
How does Taurus show up in love, friendship and work?
In love, Taurus courts with time and attention: the dinner it cooked, the plan it kept, the gift that shows it listened. It is slow to commit and slow to leave. In friendship it is the reliable one who remembers your order at the cafe and lends a car without fuss.
At work, Taurus is persistent and steady under pressure. It does its best work where expectations are clear and nobody rewrites the plan every week. Colleagues who change direction often will find Taurus cooperative only after they explain why.
Why the Sun sign is only part of Taurus compatibility
A Taurus Sun tells you what someone values, yet the feel of daily life together comes more from the Moon, and desire from Venus and Mars. Because Venus rules Taurus, the Venus sign in each chart carries extra weight here. A Taurus whose Venus sits in Aries will flirt very differently from one whose Venus sits in Cancer.
